Lieutenant (JG) Linda Naush - Chief Medical
Officer
Linda Naush was born a fourth daughter of five children to a family of two
merchants, who, in order to feed their family, worked very hard. Thus she had
been raised more by her sisters, than her parents, especially by youngest her
three older sister, Sandra, thirteen years her superior, whom she became very
close with during her childhood and teenage.
As a child she was bright, but not remarkably so. Her favorite school subjects
were arts and music, where she could apply her imagination; later history. For
the lack of specific idea of what occupation she’d desire in the future, she
tried buying herself few years to postpone the important decision by attending a
gymnasium with focus on languages as a secondary education.
When Earth’s colony Deneva Prime suffered from numerous havocs in 2380, she
heard about re-founding of voluntary organization Red Cross and volunteered
herself. At first as a logistic operational, but then she answered a call for
nurses, as there were very little of those in the field, and after passing an
appropriate course she became a Voluntary Nurse. It was the power of helping
that pointed her to the right direction in her life and after gymnasium she
attended medical school, deepening her knowledge with practical skills during
the missions Red Cross sent them to.
Towards the end of her education her family was struck by a sudden tragedy: her
older sister, the closest person to her, committed suicide in an attack of
postpartum psychosis.
Sandra’s last will assigned Linda as the foster of her only daughter. Seemingly
nothing could anger her parents more and they, along with Linda’s oldest sister,
sought to nullify the will. Failing they tried to cut Linda off their family by
disinheriting her. Ultimately, when she refused to answer to their threats and
give up Joanna, they challenged her capability of raising the child, in which
they finally succeeded.
For the child’s sake Linda still tried her best to stay close to her niece,
though communication was proving more and more difficult and bonds broken. Her
parents even refused to heed her advice regarding Joanna’s health condition,
which led only to a late diagnosis of the girl’s Xenopolycythemia. There was
very little the doctors could do than relieving her pain as the disease spread
twice as rapidly in young body, than it would in a body of an adult.
Despite this quite busy and inhospitable surroundings Linda graduated second
best in her class. It was around that time when one her friends showed up with
another volunteer enrollment forms for Red Cross, this to the planet of Onlies
in Beta Quadrant, which by records wasn’t very far from civil war. It didn’t
take her very long to ponder the application; after all that had happened to
her, Earth seemed a little too small anyway.
Blindly unaware of SFI undercover in her group she accepted assignment to go
patrolling to one of mountain villages. It was psychically demanding operation,
rather than physically; she still impressed the SFI officer so much, that he
recruited her, revealing that she has been monitored ever since she joined Red
Cross.
Ordered back to Earth she had only a year to complete the Basic Training,
Program for Enlisted Crewmen and attend Starfleet Medical Academy for necessary
knowledge of Alien Species, which she concluded by passing Recognition Tests. In
secrecy she also had to pass additional SFI training, which she had to complete
on her way to planet Phantom as she was withdrawn on a short notice, following
former Renaissance CMO’s injury.
